About Wolverhampton Grammar School
Wolverhampton Grammar School was founded in 1512 by Sir Stephen Jenyns, a Wolverhampton-born merchant who served as Lord Mayor of London in 1508-09 and Master of the Worshipful Company of Merchant Taylors. The school's 514-year history makes it one of the oldest English schools in continuous operation, founded under Henry VIII before the Reformation. The school operates today on a central Wolverhampton campus and became co-educational in 1992. The Head is Alex Frazer. The school is a member of the HMC and is inspected by the ISI. The school educates around 785 pupils ages 7-18. The school operates a substantial bursary programme via the Wolverhampton Grammar School Foundation, intended to preserve the founder's 1512 charitable intent of providing educational access for the boys and girls of Wolverhampton regardless of family means.
