About Lycee International de Londres Winston Churchill
The Lycée International de Londres Winston Churchill was founded in 2015 as the second French Lycée in London — opening to relieve pressure on the much older Lycée Charles de Gaulle (South Kensington, founded 1915, around 4,500 pupils), which had reached the upper limits of its physical capacity. The Lycée Winston Churchill takes its name from the British wartime Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill — the Anglo-French Entente Cordiale resonance was a deliberate diplomatic choice in naming the school after the British leader whose 1940 "Franco-British Union" proposal to General de Gaulle was one of the most significant Anglo-French political moments of the twentieth century.
The school operates today on a campus in Wembley, north-west London. The Proviseur (the French title for the principal) is Olivier Rauch. The school is co-educational ages 4-18 with around 797 pupils, predominantly from French and dual-French-British families. The curriculum is delivered in French and is accredited by the French Ministère de l'Éducation Nationale via the AEFE (the French foreign-education agency that supports around 580 French schools abroad). Students take the French Baccalauréat as their school-leaving qualification.
Graduates progress predominantly to top French universities (Sciences Po, Université Paris-Saclay, the École Normale Supérieure system) and to top UK universities (Oxbridge, Imperial, UCL) via the French Baccalauréat. The school operates substantial fee subsidies funded by the French government, intended to ensure that the children of French diplomatic, banking and corporate families posted to London can attend the school regardless of their parents' professional pay grade.
