Dean Close School was founded in 1886 as an Evangelical Church of England boys' boarding school in the spa town of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire — named for Dean Francis Close, the Cheltenham Evangelical clergyman who served as Dean of Carlisle. The school became co-educational in 1968 and today educates around 530 pupils in the Senior School with a substantial boarding population. The Head is Bradley Salisbury. The school is a member of the HMC and the Boarding Schools Association. The Cheltenham location supports a strong music programme. The school operates a substantial bursary programme via the Dean Close Foundation.
