About City of London School for Girls
The City of London School for Girls was founded in 1894 by the City of London Corporation — the local government authority for the historic Square Mile of the City of London — as the girls' sister school of the older City of London School (boys, founded 1442). The school operates today within the Barbican Centre complex in central London — uniquely among UK girls' schools, the campus is integrated into the Brutalist Barbican arts complex, with academic and concert facilities shared with the Barbican Centre and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
The school is girls-only ages 7-18 with around 780 pupils. The Headmistress is Ena Harrop. The school is a member of the GSA and is inspected by the ISI. CLSG is consistently ranked among the top three UK girls' independent schools by A-Level results and Oxbridge offer rate. The school's location in the City of London produces a strong feeder relationship to the City professions and the great London university institutions of UCL, LSE, Imperial and King's.
The school operates a substantial bursary programme funded directly by the City of London Corporation, intended to provide educational access for academically able girls regardless of family means.
