Berkhamsted Prep and Pre-Prep School is the preparatory arm of the historic Berkhamsted School (founded 1541 by royal charter of Henry VIII). The Prep operates today on a central Berkhamsted campus, Hertfordshire, and is co-educational ages 3-11 with around 555 pupils. The Principal of the Berkhamsted Schools Group is Mark Steed. The school is a member of the IAPS. The Prep is a direct feeder to Berkhamsted Senior School. The historic Senior School's most famous alumnus is the novelist Graham Greene — author of Brighton Rock, The Power and the Glory, The End of the Affair, The Quiet American, The Third Man (originally the 1949 Carol Reed film screenplay) — whose father was Berkhamsted's Headmaster from 1910 to 1927.
