About Woodbridge School
Woodbridge School was founded in 1577 by Thomas Seckford, a Tudor lawyer and Master of the Court of Requests under Elizabeth I, who endowed the school in his home town of Woodbridge in Suffolk under the Seckford Foundation. The school operates today on a campus in central Woodbridge, on the Deben Estuary (the Suffolk river estuary that opens to the North Sea). The school became co-educational in 1974 and educates around 739 pupils ages 3-18. The Head is Shona Norman. The school is a member of the HMC and is inspected by the ISI. The Deben Estuary location supports a strong sailing programme. The school operates a substantial bursary programme via the Seckford Foundation, intended to preserve the founder's 1577 charitable intent of providing educational access for the boys and girls of Woodbridge regardless of family means.
