About Princethorpe College
Princethorpe College was founded in 1818 by French Benedictine nuns who had fled France during the religious persecutions of the French Revolution. The Benedictine community settled at Princethorpe in Warwickshire and founded a girls' school within the priory grounds. The Princethorpe Priory operated as a French-language Benedictine nunnery and girls' school for over a century. In 1966 the Benedictine community departed and the buildings passed to the Society of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, who reopened the school as a boys' boarding school. The school became co-educational in 1976 and fully day in 1999. The Headmaster is Ed Hester.
The school educates around 893 pupils ages 11-18 today and is co-educational throughout the senior years. The 200-acre campus includes the former Benedictine Priory church and conventual buildings, both Grade II* listed. The school is a member of the HMC and the CISC (Catholic Independent Schools Conference) and is inspected by the ISI. The school is the flagship senior school of the Princethorpe Foundation, a multi-school group that also operates The Crescent School (a co-educational prep school in Bilton, Rugby), Crackley Hall School (a co-educational prep school in Kenilworth) and the Princethorpe Junior arrangement.
The school's academic profile is strong across the sciences, mathematics and modern languages, with a strong Russell Group pipeline (particularly to the University of Warwick, located ten miles south of the campus). The school operates a substantial bursary programme via the Princethorpe Foundation, intended to provide educational access for Warwickshire and West Midlands families regardless of family means.
