About Notting Hill & Ealing High School GDST
Notting Hill & Ealing High School was founded in 1873 as one of the very first schools of the Girls' Public Day School Company (now the Girls' Day School Trust, GDST). The school was originally founded at Notting Hill in central west London and moved in the 1920s to its present site in Ealing, retaining the historic Notting Hill name in the title. The school today educates around 930 pupils ages 4-18 and is girls-only throughout. The Headmaster is Matthew Shoults.
The school is a member of the GSA and the GDST and is inspected by the ISI. The two-site campus — Junior School (ages 4-11) and Senior School (ages 11-18) — sits in central Ealing, west London. A-Level results place NHEHS consistently in the top quintile of London girls' independent schools by Oxbridge offer numbers.
The school is governed by the Girls' Day School Trust — the Victorian charitable federation founded in 1872 to provide academically rigorous, affordable day-school education for girls at a time when this was almost completely unavailable in England. The GDST today operates 25 schools across the UK, of which Notting Hill & Ealing High is one of the original founding members. The Trust's charitable foundation funds a substantial bursary programme at all GDST schools, intended to maintain the Victorian principle of educational access for academically able girls regardless of family means.
The school's curriculum is strongest in the sciences, mathematics, modern languages and drama, with a particularly strong Imperial and UCL pipeline reflecting the West London location. Old NHEHS girls are active across UK academia, medicine, the City of London and the creative industries.
