About LVS Ascot
LVS Ascot — the Licensed Victuallers' School at Ascot — was founded in 1803 by the Licensed Victuallers' Trade (the London-based industry association of publicans, hoteliers and licensed-trade operators) as a charitable boarding school for the orphaned children of publicans and licensees who had died leaving widows and children unable to maintain themselves. The Licensed Trade Charity (formerly the Society for the Relief of Aged and Distressed Licensed Victuallers) continues to govern the school today. The school operates on a 25-acre campus at Ascot, Berkshire, and is co-educational ages 4-18 with around 785 pupils. The Principal is Christine Cunniffe.
The school is a member of the HMC and the Boarding Schools Association. The school operates a particularly substantial Foundation bursary programme funded by the Licensed Trade Charity, intended to preserve the founding 1803 philanthropic principle of providing educational access for the children of licensed-trade families and other UK families regardless of family means.
