About Burton Hathow Preparatory School
At Burton Hathow, our teachers pride themselves on knowing each child personally and can tailor their individual experience in order to enable them to be the best that they can be. This bespoke and customised approach to learning extends across all aspects of your child’s school experience, meaning that our focus is not only on imparting information, but also on developing them as individuals. Our students are encouraged to be independent and are given more freedom to make their own decisions, take risks, and step outside of their comfort zone, all within a secure and safe environment.
The main school itself is a converted farm building, dating back to the 1800s, at which time it was known as Hathow Farm. ‘Hathow’, the Anglo-Saxon word for a risen area of fertile ground covered in heather, denotes the fortuitous 2 metre incline that sets the area apart from the surrounding countryside and has saved it from flooding in the past. The choice to include this historic name in that of our school serves as a nod not only to our heritage, but also to our wider ethos, through which we seek to provide the foundations to set our students apart and give them the best start possible to their educational journey.
Our children don’t sit in a classroom and copy the same phrases out of the same text books that have been used as standard for all the children that came before them. Our children don’t sit and struggle, wishing their teacher would provide something more engaging as they learn best through interaction. Our children don’t sit quietly by the side-lines as the louder ones in a huge class of 30+ dominate the conversation. We do things differently.
